CHAIR COGHILL announced the consideration  of HB 8. He summarized                                                               
that  the  bill  broadens  the authority  for  protective  orders                                                               
regarding  sexual assault  and  domestic  violence. The  previous                                                               
committee added a  section that said that in  compliance with the                                                               
Violence Against Women's  Act, the name of the  person filing the                                                               
petition would not appear on  CourtView. The court indicated that                                                               
it  would  not put  both  name  on  CourtView  for a  variety  of                                                               
reasons. He asked if the sponsor agreed with that amendment.

TIM  CLARK,  Staff,  Representative Bryce  Edgmon,  Alaska  State                                                               
Legislature,  sponsor of  HB  8 said  the  sponsor believes  that                                                               
while the amendment raises an  important issue, it is problematic                                                               
for the  bill. "It has created  opposition to a bill  that before                                                               
enjoyed  wide  support  among   the  stakeholders."  The  sponsor                                                               
believes  that   issue  should  be  the   subject  of  standalone

CHAIR COGHILL found  no questions. He closed  public testimony on                                                               
HB 8 and asked the will of the committee.

SENATOR  COSTELLO moved  to report  the Senate  CS for  HB 8(CRA)                                                               
from  committee  with  individual  recommendations  and  attached
